Self Employed/ Consultant -First Aid Instructor (Outside IR35)

Location: Cornwall

Location: Various Secondary Schools across Cornwall.

We are looking to recruit a First Aid Instructor for one day each week to deliver CPR and AED training sessions for Jay’s Aim – Helping Young Hearts. The role sits outside IR35 and is offered on a self employed consultancy basis.

The Role

This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified first aid instructor to work with a charity that is making a real difference across South West England. Jay’s Aim training sessions focus on equipping learners with the essential skills and knowledge needed to respond to a sudden cardiac arrest.

The charity uses a combination of videos, instructor led teaching, and role play scenarios to ensure sessions are current, relevant, and adaptable for schools, sports clubs, and community groups. Our training is distinctive in that we cater for larger groups while still giving each learner the opportunity to practise with their own CPR manikin in a more relaxed environment than some traditional first aid providers.

Jay’s Aim has set an ambitious target of delivering practical training to every 13 year old (Year 8) in Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, and Dorset each year by the end of the 2027 to 2028 academic year. This role forms part of a three year plan to achieve that goal.

The successful candidate will be available on a set day each week to visit secondary schools across Cornwall. A typical training day includes four or five one hour sessions for groups of up to 35 students. The instructor will usually arrive around one hour before the first session to set up and allow similar time at the end of the day to pack away. Sessions are delivered consecutively to fit within the school timetable.

Requirements

The successful candidate must hold a recognised first aid instructor qualification awarded by a regulated organisation, or a relevant medical qualification that exceeds these requirements, such as a paramedic, nurse, or doctor qualification.

They should have experience of working with a wide range of age groups and people from diverse backgrounds. A full UK driving licence is required, along with a willingness to travel across Cornwall. Travel time from a home base within Cornwall will be paid.

An enhanced DBS check is required to work with children. Previous experience working with school groups would be beneficial but is not essential.

The successful candidate will be able to build strong rapport with people of all ages and abilities. They will be confident in promoting the charity’s objectives and capable of adapting to changes within the training environment.

Applicants must be able to work flexible hours and be eligible to work in the UK without restrictions. All equipment and training will be provided.

Please contact us for details of pay rates.
